We've been stopping at The Fisherman for 35 years on our trip to Canada and this is a good stop before the border.
BEWARE!!! - We stopped here to refuel our F350 diesel before we entered Canada for a week long fishing trip. Filled the tank from empty. A mile or two into Canada we get "water in fuel" message from the sensor in our fuel filter. Long story short, the fuel had a gallon or two of water in it and we couldn't get it repaired (siphon and/or drop the tank) until the week due to everyone closed on the weekends. It almost ruined the trip.
After arguing with him for almost 30 minutes he admitted someone else had called about the same problem (accused me of being that same person), and told me he would check the filters at the pump and give me a call back.. you guessed it, he didn't. The damages were about $300, far far from what they could have been if the water had gotten passed the filter.
There is sometimes cheaper gas up the road, but The Fisherman has the best live and dead baits and some lures you won't find anywhere else that have been very productive for us (coco loco, mepps colors, spoons and walleye rigs, plus various lunker baits). They also have some very nice sweaters and pull-overs and better prices than the other shops. Open all night on Saturdays and some busy Fridays.
Because of his rude attitude and the way that he does business alone, my family and friends will not be stopping here ever again. If you were a business owner, why would you not want to make it right with the customer, even if there is a slight possibility that you caused them damage?
When I called and brought this to the owners attention to get reimbursed for the damages, he did not care. I told him the mechanic that fixed it told us it was definitely bad diesel fuel - he said that mechanics will just tell you whatever you want to hear. I told him I personally was under the truck emptying water out of the filter - he said he didn't care and that it wasn't from his gas (yes these were his words). I told him that as soon as we siphoned the tank, replaced the filters, and refilled with new diesel the problem went away - he said it couldn't possible be from his gas because he has many vehicles go through there each day and hadn't heard a complaint yet. (hmmm what was I doing?)
